Short Program
"Hold Me Now "
Johnny Logan, 2.50'
At the end of last season, after all our competitions and success, we were eager and enthusiastic. For the first time we decided to pick out the music for the following season before going on vacation. We gathered all the suggestions and burned them on one CD thinking how easy it was going to be. We played the CD on one of our practice sessions and that is when the problems started – none of the songs was accepted by the whole or most of the team. As the songs finished one by one, we started to panic. Our great plan was not turning out the way we had expected. We were already starting to feel desperate when we heard the opening bars of Johnny Logan's timeless classic “Hold me now”. All the skaters immediately stopped skating and asked what that song was. After getting over the initial shock that there were actually people in this world who don’t know all the words by heart, we realized two important things: for most of the team the eighties are ancient history and we found the perfect music for our short program.
Free Skating
"Mulan"
The music from the original motion picture soundtrack, 4.40'
When it was time to select or free skating music, we had absolutely no ide where to start. The only criterion that we all agreed upon was that the music needs to have a story. It is extremely difficult to skate four and a half minutes giving a 100% of yourself both physically and emotionally and in the past that has always been easier if there was a story to tell. So, guided by past experience, we got hold of soundtracks of many movies, musicals and animated features. After listening to all the music many many times it was relatively easy to choose the official soundtrack to the animated classic “Mulan”. The story of a determined and strong-minded girl who triumphs over every obstacle in order to achieve a noble goal seems to be perfect for the ice and synchronized skating. The music was cut to suit the team perfectly and all the elements fit effortlessly to every beat. At the end of last season we finally said goodbye to our favorite music – the soundtrack of “Prince of Egypt”. We just hope that we will interpret this story equally well. (Sara Perl)
